An NIH funded postdoctoral positionis available immediately for a highly motivated early career scientist to studythe molecular, epigeneticand genomic mechanisms regulating humoral immunity. Current NIH funded projects focus on the interface of chromatinconformation with gene expression and the functional implications of theseevents to immunoglobulin repertoire development and humoral immunity. Theposition in the Kenter laboratory at the University of Illinois College ofMedicine is located in a vibrant scientific environment with cross-cuttingChicago-wide programs in molecular genetics and genomics. Thecandidate must have recent research experience in molecular/cellular biologyand immunology and be fluent in English. Our studies are focused on featurespromoting productive Igh locus rearrangements including chromosomalconformation, epigenetic modifications and spatial localization in 3D nuclearspace in progenitor and mature B lymphocytes (see Cell Rep 14:896, CellRep 37:110059; Nat.Comm. 14:1225). We investigate radial positioning of gene loci in 3D nuclei asa condition of robust locus function using state of the art imaging andmolecular approaches. We also examineimmunoglobulin repertoire in early and mature stage B cell compartments fromyoung and old individuals to assess the molecular underpinnings ofimmunosenescence that contributes to immune suppression of the elderly. We engage in collaborative mechanisticstudies with other labs within our institution and nationally. We seek highly motivated futurecareer scientists capable of independent thinking, open to teamwork and determinedto conquer new techniques. It is ourmission to provide a excellent learning environment to train the nextgeneration of scientists. The successfulcandidate will be provided opportunities to present their work at local andnational meeting venues. Jobresponsibilities Design and develop a range of molecular methods and projects with the Principal Investigator and collaborators. Conduct independent investigation, data collection and analysis. Optimize new methods and technologies. Prepare scientific results for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Communicate results at internal and external scientific conferences. Assist in the training of graduate students and research staff. Participate in laboratory meetings and planning Required Qualifications: Candidates must hold a recent PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree in immunology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry or a related field. Three years or less of postdoctoral experience. Prior experience with molecular biology. At least one first-authored peer reviewed paper in an international journal Excellent written and oral communication skills. Desirable Qualifications: Proficiency in cell culture and bioinformatics Analysis of primary lymphocytes and multicolor flow cytometry. Experience with handling mice.
