Dairy Farm Assistant Herdsman (6551)

Assistant Herdsperson job opening on our 250 cow dairy located just outside of Hartford, WI. Our farm is currently in need of someone who can help monitor the health of all animals on the premises and note any behavioral changes, give vaccinations and other injections, and treat minor injuries or illnesses as they occur. Also, maintain comprehensive health and production records, work closely with the veterinarian during examinations, assist with calving, assist with hoof trimming, and milk cows and feed calves twice daily. The herdsperson must also be qualified to operate milking machines and other equipment, troubleshooting any mechanical problems or other issues as they arise. The milking parlor must be kept clean and up to the standards required by the dairy inspector. Hours will typically be Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends, and will require on-call periods. Starting salary of $50,000/year with potential to grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Help monitor the health of all animals on the premises and note any behavioral changes
Give vaccinations and other injections
Treat minor injuries or illnesses as they occur
Maintain comprehensive health and production records
Work closely with the veterinarian during examinations
Assist with calving
Assist with hoof trimming
Milk cows
Feed calves twice daily
Operate milking machines and other equipment
Troubleshoot any mechanical problems or other issues as they arise
Keep the milking parlor clean and up to the standards required by the dairy inspector

QUALIFICATIONS
Ideally we'd like to hire someone with relevant experience in the Dairy Industry. This job would be ideal for recent college graduates or those who have been in the dairy industry for some time. Candidate must be reliable and show up for scheduled shifts. Candidate must also adhere to all protocols put in place for the safety of themselves and our animals.

BENEFITS
Starting salary of $50,000/year with potential to grow.

We currently do not offer a benefits package, but do offer some flexibility within the scheduling.
