Student Financial Services and the Center for Non-Profit Excellence are recruiting for an Advancement & Communications Intern This position will be located at 1701-A Allied St, Charlottesville, VA 22903 with a limited amount of hybrid hours available. Candidates who apply must be receiving federal work study funding for further consideration from the hiring manager.

CNE Advancement & Communications Intern

The Advancement and Communications Intern will be an integral member of the CNE team and will take part in staff meetings when possible. They will learn general business protocol, and professional communications, and will apply their skills in research and writing, as well as the use of various software applications.

In addition, they will learn how to apply good business practices, the importance of planning, and how to work in a professional environment, engaging

constituents at all levels-donors, volunteers, agencies, and professional staff. This position will enable the individual freedom to work on a variety of types of projects, depending on their skill level and ability, and will work closely with the Advancement and Communications teams as well as interact with the organizational leadership, board, and community partners.

By participating in many of the organization's activities, the intern will learn about specific area nonprofit organizations, the community's concerns and needs, and the developing characteristics of Virginia's nonprofit sector. The

intern will also have the opportunity to sit in on CNE trainings, workshops, and events getting both hands-on project experience as well as professional

development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

The intern's duties will include:

Supporting the Communications Manager with Communications projects:
  • Create and execute social media strategies to increase awareness of CNE programs, including developing social media content, drafting posts in Buffer, designing graphics, writing captions, and maintaining the social media content calendar.
  • Collect, edit, and maintain a library of photos and videos from CNE events, ensuring they are used effectively across digital platforms.
  • Support with the creation and distribution of marketing materials.
  • Support the planning, promotion, and execution of CNE events by developing communications strategies and materials.
Supporting the Advancement Team with Advancement projects:
  • Support the donor stewardship process and procedures, including:
    • Document and track donors and donations.
    • Prepare donor thanks you notes and acknowledgement letters.
    • Monitor and update donor stewardship calendar.
  • Assist the advancement team with data organization and cleanup in Salesforce.
  • Maintain the grant tracking calendar.
  • Attend weekly advancement team meetings.
  • Support impact storytelling through the creation and delivery of the CNE's Annual Fund and Impact Report.

Schedule

Normal business hours are 9 am to 5 pm on Mondays through Thursdays and 9 am to 4 pm on Fridays. The intern and supervisor will establish a mutually

acceptable, required interning schedule within normal business hours.

Interested candidates should be receiving federal work study funding, and

submit a resume and cover letter in Workday. This is a paid position at $15.00 per hour. A mutually agreed upon schedule will be determined by hiring

manager and the selected candidate.

Position will begin in September 2025 and end May 8, 2026 or sooner.
