JOB SUMMARY The Elmore lab at Clemson University is seeking an enthusiastic full-time research technician/wildlife biologist to lead coordination of a large, collaborative effort aimed at monitoring bird response to Hurricane Helene in National Forests of North Carolina, USA. The candidate will support faculty, staff, and students (both undergraduate and graduate) on diverse bird related monitoring projects. Other duties as assigned. JOB DUTIES 30% - Essential - Assist faculty, staff, and students on bird projects, including coordination of field data collection and supervision of field crews consisting of students, technicians, interns, or other stakeholders/partners. 30% - Essential - Lead and provide technical support and/or training to project staff, interns, seasonal technicians, and students on bird related monitoring, including auditory recording unit deployment, bird point counts, mist netting/banding, telemetry, nest searches, or other methods. 30% - Essential - Manage bird projects and conduct field work in challenging, remote field environments, including mountainous National Forests in North Carolina, with minimal supervision. 10% - Essential - Perform or assist with data entry, statistical analyses, literature review, maintenance of field equipment or vehicles, and generation of reports. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education - 1st Bachelor's Degree - Biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and experience in fish, wildlife o Work Experience - 2+ years wildlife research, fieldwork, and conservation. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Education - 1st Master's Degree - Wildlife ecology, biology, natural resources, or closely related field Work Experience - 4+ years collecting, processing, and analyzing bird data, including ARUs, point counts, mist netting/banding, telemetry, and nest searches. Bird and veg ID, forest management, statistical analyses, drone operation, and writing. Licenses & Certifications: GIS certification, FAA part 107 drone license RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Acts as Lead - Acts as a Lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work. BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget. Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines. ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Normal Operations. Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
