Job Description

A contract position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary school setting in Olympia, WA throughout the upcoming school year. This role is crucial in facilitating effective communication and ensuring an inclusive learning environment for students who use American Sign Language (ASL).

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clear and accurate interpretation of spoken English into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, students, and support staff to promote accessible communication.
• Assist in fostering an inclusive educational atmosphere that meets the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while adhering to school policies and ethical standards.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated interpreting experience in educational settings.
• Understanding of elementary education vocabulary and curricula.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Relevant certification or training in sign language interpreting is preferred.
