Job Title: Registered Nurse – PCU

Facility: Johnson City Medical Center (Ballad Health - MSP)
Location: 400 N State of Franklin Rd, Johnson City, TN 37604
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 x 12-hour shifts (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: 36/36 schedule (with no call)
Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend

 

 

Job Overview

Seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Johnson City Medical Center. This night shift role involves caring for adult patients with complex needs, including dialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Floating to other units may be required. This role welcomes first-time travelers and requires a minimum of 2 years nursing experience.

 

Compensation for 36 hours: $2,500 Per Week

  • Weekly Gross: $2,500.00 Per Week
  • On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
  • Stipend (Non-Taxable): $1,780.00 Per Week

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care in the PCU, including managing cardiac monitoring and emergency responses.
  • Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias; participate in Rapid Response Teams.
  • Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and manage central and peripheral lines.
  • Manage cardiac drips (without titration).
  • Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen masks, and non-invasive airway management.
  • Adhere to isolation precautions and infection control guidelines.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services.
  • Participate in nursing student education as part of clinical practice development.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (PCU or relevant med-surg experience preferred).
  • Current RN license in hand (Tennessee or compact state).
  • Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required.
  • Experience with Epic electronic charting system required.
  • Traveler’s permanent residence must be 100 miles or more from the facility (locals not accepted).
  • Willingness to float to other units as needed.
  • Commitment to completing drug screening 12-14 days prior to start date.

Preferred Skills

  • Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management.
  • IV therapy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care.
  • Experience with dialysis and peritoneal dialysis patient care.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Work Environment

  • Patient ratio: PCU 1:5
  • Unit beds: 33
  • Facility is tobacco-free; flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only).
  • Floating required within hospital units.
  • Orientation includes non-billable online and in-person training.
