Job Description

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) delivers compassionate, trauma-informed, and timely care to individuals affected by violence, whether intentional or accidental. This role requires performing within the scope of nursing practice, demonstrating expertise in patient assessment, and developing comprehensive care plans for patients ranging from newborns to the elderly.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide care aligned with unit competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain quality assurance including chain of evidence, documentation, referrals, and mandatory reporting.
  • Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care.
  • Prepare documentation, testimony, and case facts as needed.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation following organizational policies.
  • Meet scheduling needs including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
  • Adhere to privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, and external agencies.
Education and Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Completion of a 64-hour course or two 40-hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire.
  • At least one year of acute care experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by orientation end.
  • Current ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of hire.
  • Registered Nurse credential from a compact state or relevant nursing board.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • SANE-A and SANE-P certifications.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills with sensitivity to cultural, educational, and age diversity.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach.

Physical Requirements: Medium work involving occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent standing or walking (26-50% of the day). Accommodations may be provided as needed.
