Job Summary
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required: ability to deal with the public, patients, and fellow staff in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Provide comprehensive primary care in accordance with regulatory guidelines set by the State of Alabama and Rural Health Clinic Code of Federal Regulations including but not limited to:
  • Consistently updating specialty skills and knowledge to maintain competency.
  • Treating all patients with respect and compassion by providing quality care regardless of the patient's religion, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, social and/or economic status.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe environment by ensuring the provision of competent care that embraces the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of patients in a multicultural, global society.
  • Knowledge of the organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Obtain health histories, assess, screen, evaluate, and diagnose children from birth through adolescence to provide the full spectrum of pediatric primary care health services.
  • Maintain a system for accurately recording and reporting patient conditions in the medical record in a timely manner; assure medical records are transferred as required when patients are referred; participate in annual review for quality and completeness.
  • Ability to recognize medical condition requiring consultation with the collaborating physician, and to work with the collaborating physician, in person or by phone, on these and other cases outside the scope of established protocols.
  • Perform, order,and interpret routine laboratory tests; notify patients of results as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Effectively utilize referrals to collaborate with members of the health care team when indicated and for other diagnostic services that are not provided by the clinic
  • Provide continuity of care as appropriate between office visits.
  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Attend required meetings; participate in professional development activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides patient medical services, which are limited to services within the training and experience of the practitioner.
  • Obtains complete, detailed, and accurate medical histories on patients. Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
  • Performs health assessments and physical examinations and records all pertinent patient data.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals.
  • Interprets and integrates patient data, for the purposes of establishing presumptive diagnoses, and the general workup of the patient by ordering appropriate laboratory studies, radiological and other special examinations or diagnostic procedures required for the evaluation of illness.
  • Prescribes, administers, and dispenses drugs in accordance with federal and state laws and standards of practice.
  • Provides instructions and guidance and counseling regarding medical care matters to patients and their families.
  • Arranges for referral or refers patients to needed services that cannot be provided to patients in the clinic.
  • Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs, as appropriate.
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation, as requested.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Monitors patients and provides continuity of care between visits.
  • Records complete and accurate chart entries on patient transactions, writing orders, and recording progress notes summarizing patient clinical care assists physicians with additional chart completion, as requested.
  • Works with the office manager in oversight of appropriate medical record documentation.
  • Actively involved in Quality Assurance Program in accordance with the clinic policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a cooperative attitude with clinic personnel, physicians, patients, and families (as needed) to enhance the continuity of care and a positive working environment.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control offers recommendations for revisions at least annually.
  • Attends scheduled department staff and clinical meetings. Attends and participates in community events and activities.
  • Exercises utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to Clinic policies and HIPAA requirements.
  • Performs other duties, as may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs. unassisted, including assisting patients when required.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, reaching.
  • Use of hands, fingers, and fine-motor skills.
  • Both near and far vision required.
  • Specific hearing abilities required by this job include ability to hear heart rate, blood pressure, parent/family/patient answer to questions upon examination or via telephone, and communication from visitors, clients, or staff members.
  • Regularly exposed to risk of blood borne pathogens, as well as other bodily fluids.
  • Exposed to unpleasant elements.'
