Texas Childrens Hospital seeks an experienced physician with a proven clinical track record to serve The Vannie Cook Clinic in McAllen, TX as an attending Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist.

The mission of the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Childrens Cancer and Hematology Clinic is to provide treatment to children in South Texas who suffer from cancer and blood disorders regardless of their ability to pay. It is the regions first state-of-the-art pediatric hematology/oncology clinic and the only comprehensive pediatric cancer treatment facility in South Texas. Since 2001, 10,000 families have found the care they need right where they need it most, in their own backyard.

Position Highlights :

Join our nationally recognized team of pediatric sub-specialists as we seek to hire a full-time clinical Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist.

  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage care of Hematology/Oncology patients.
  • Attends to patient/nursing needs on admitted inpatients.
  • Assists with the care of new admissions.
  • Assist the Emergency Department to incoming patients after hours.
  • Attend on the inpatient (daytime) service teams for board-certified board eligible pediatric hematologist/oncologists.
  • Perform procedures (bone marrow aspirate/biopsy and lumbar puncture) on the procedure team.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • An academic record consistent with appointment as an assistant or associate professor is desired given TCHs affiliation with Baylor. However, this is NOT required for this position.
  • Applicants must have a Medical School Degree or equivalent.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible for Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
  • The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain or already hold an active Texas medical license.
  • Required: Fluent in Spanish

About the Vannie Cook Childrens Clinic:

The outpatient clinic is comprised of over 10,000 square feet of space with 2 waiting rooms, 7 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, 2 phlebotomy stations, 2 laboratories and a large infusion suite divided into areas for toddlers, young children, and adolescents, respectively.

In addition to offering diagnostic and cancer treatment services, the clinic offers a long-term survivor program which follows childhood cancer survivors through adulthood and conducts childhood cancer epidemiology research.

The clinic was created through a joint effort of the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center. Our goal is to ensure that local children who suffer from cancer and blood diseases receive the most up-to-date care and treatment without the need to leave the region and regardless of ability to pay.
