Michigan Oculofacial Specialists is the practice of doctors Lawrence Handler, MD & Zachary Pearce, DO, specializes in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This unique specialty treats the eyelids, eyebrows, tear duct system, orbit, and surrounding areas of the face. Our goal is to provide you with the most positive and rewarding experience possible. Our staff prides itself in treating everyone in a courteous, comforting manner. You will find them happy and willing to discuss our services with you when calling, visiting or emailing our office. Our practice has offices located in Troy and Clinton Township where we see patients and perform minor procedures. Truvista Surgery Center is our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgical Center that is located near our Troy office. We also offer surgical services and patient care at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township.

Position Summary

We are currently hiring healthcare professionals who are passionate about customer service to join our Team as an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant. The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant will support a high-volume Ophthalmic practice that focuses on providing quality and compassionate care to patients in need of complete eye care services. The Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Assistant role is more than a job, it is truly a career. In time you may become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certified (OSC) and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). We encourage and support these certifications and provide assistance with the certification process. Additional monetary incentives are awarded upon attainment. Responsibilities

This position requires customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a degree of independent decision-making.

Ophthalmic skills (upon completion of training) include but are not limited to:
  • Obtaining and documenting patient history
  • Determining visual acuity
  • Performing automated refraction
  • Administering eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions to the eye as ordered by the physician
  • Performing office duties and clinical tasks - entering data into EMR
  • Providing patient services
  • Maintaining equipment and instruments
Qualifications
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required
  • Must be flexible with traveling to various locations as needed
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • The ability to seek instruction in areas where he/she is not knowledgeable
  • The ability to recognize inconsistencies
Education:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school
