Job Description

The Medical Administrative Assistant functions as a member of the clinic patient care team. The position performs clinical tasks and procedures to support the delivery of care. The Medical Administrative Assistant is responsible for assisting patients to obtain services in a timely manner and assuring efficient utilization of resources in the coordination of patient care. The Medical Administrative Assistant performs the duties of the Medical Assistant I, in addition, acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/ tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. Operates as part of the clinic patient care team performing a variety of functions such as clinical tasks and procedures, as well as greeting patients, insurance coverage, eligibility verification and authorization, scheduling and telephone management, incoming referral coordination, and other clinic front desk activities. Performs work in an assigned area to develop expertise needed to be fully functional in an assigned specialty area/clinic. Job Scope includes patient portal and inbox message management, assisting with physician procedures, referral inquiries, disability paperwork management, Rx refill & processing prior authorization, clinic huddle coordination, trainer/new employee orientation, participation in maintenance of department A3, assisting providers with telemedicine services, scribing for providers, greeting patients, updating patient demographic information, insurance verification, patient check-in, payment processing, scheduling follow-up appointments, resolving registration discrepancies, and other duties as assigned. Requires high school diploma or GED, Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma or equivalent training, 1-3 years related experience, medical/clinical knowledge and skills, professional communication skills, proficient computer skills including EMR, organizational and multitasking skills, and current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Physical demands include frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, lifting up to 40+ lbs occasionally, and working around clinical equipment and biohazards. Travel requirement is 20%.
