Experimental Aircraft Technician II

Job Summary Experimental Aircraft Technicians II are advanced-level team members who play a critical role in DeltaHawk Engines' airframe integration, experimental testing, and certification efforts. In addition to performing maintenance and modifications, they serve as technical mentors and contribute significantly to the development of procedures, tooling, and feedback loops between engineering and operations. This position demands a high level of technical skill, problem-solving ability, and autonomy in decision-making. Working closely with engineering, flight test, and quality teams, the Aircraft Technician II ensures experimental aircraft and test assets are maintained, configured, and documented to the highest safety and performance standards, directly supporting DeltaHawk's mission of innovation and aviation safety. Essential Duties & Responsibilities An individual in this position must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities listed below with minimal supervision.   • Independently perform complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification tasks on experimental aircraft, including engine, airframe, avionics, and electrical systems
  • Lead the installation and configuration of new experimental engines into testbed airframes
  • Interpret engineering drawings and interface with design engineers to resolve discrepancies or implement improvements
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians; assist in on-the-job training
  • Author or revise shop procedures and contribute to process development for new builds and test configurations
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of work performed, including changes to aircraft systems or configurations
  • Support and execute ground and flight test operations, including pre-flight inspections, test setup, and post-test analysis
  • Identify and proactively address safety or quality issues in the shop or hangar environment
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in experimental, military, general aviation, or light sport aircraft maintenance
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (FAA, ASTM, etc.) and experimental aircraft certification practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited oversight in a dynamic R&D environment
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills without reliance on OEM documentation
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
  • An active plan underway to obtain A&P certification
  • Strong organizational skills in managing tools, parts, and test setups
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including clear documentation of changes, issues, and procedures
  • Computer proficiency in file management, spreadsheets, and digital documentation systems
  • Physical ability to lift 45 lbs multiple times per shift and work in a variety of positions
  • Overtime and domestic travel may be required
  • Tools will be provided
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with experimental aircraft, homebuilt aircraft, or prototype engine integration
  • Familiarity with FAA experimental aircraft inspection, documentation, and sign-off procedures
  • Expertise in at least one aircraft system (e.g., electrical harnessing, avionics wiring, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, etc.)
  • Experience with basic machining, fabrication, or composite repair
  • Prior involvement in flight test programs or engine development projects is highly desirable
Working Conditions Work is conducted in typical hangar, mechanical shop, and engine test cell environments. This position may occasionally require travel, overtime, or off-site support during critical testing or integration phases. Safety protocols must be followed at all times in accordance with company and FAA standards.
