SUMMARY
We are looking for a skilled Electrical Designer with strong AutoCAD experience to support our industrial automation projects. In this role, you will design electrical control panels, wiring schematics, and system layouts for automated machinery, process systems and various other types of systems. Under the supervision of a lead electrical designer, you will work closely with automation engineers, control system programmers, and project managers to produce accurate and code-compliant electrical documentation for manufacturing and industrial environments.
JOB DUTIES
Key Responsibilities:
· Design and draft electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
· Develop bills of materials (BOM), cable schedules, terminal plans, and I/O lists for PLC systems
· Collaborate with electrical and automation engineers to ensure design accuracy and system integration
· Interpret project specifications, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
· Ensure all designs comply with industry standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, UL 508A, IEC) and customer requirements
· Support panel fabrication and field installation by providing detailed documentation and resolving design-related issues
· Participate in design reviews and update drawings to reflect redlines and as-built changes
· Manage and organize project drawing sets and revision histories
QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates of Science (A.S) degree in Engineering Graphics or related field with 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
AutoCAD proficiency is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
The ability to read, interpret and apply technical guidance and specifications provided in the form of instruction manuals, product specifications, and industry standards with coaching from a Lead Electrical Designer. The ability to write clear requests for more technical information, and the ability to write clear explanations responding to technical questions. The ability to respectfully voice opinions and insights in group settings. Responds promptly to requests.
Knowledgeable in the requirements of the UL 508A Standard and of the NEC codes as they apply to UL508A. An understanding of electrical components including terminal blocks, breakers, resistors, fuses, diodes, and power converters.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply basic algebra to perform calculations necessary in electrical design. The ability to calculate percentages, full load amperages, determine clearances, voltage drops. The ability to use Watt’s Law in converting given values to needed values. The ability to use geometric principles to correctly depict and construct designs used in drawings.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficiency using:
· AutoCAD (Most current version)
· AutoCAD Electrical (Most current version)
· Excel
· Word
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficiency at to include, but not limited to:
· Drafting per industry standards
· Understanding basic laws of electricity
· Technical writing
