Job Summary:

Dairy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily dairy operations, to include but no limited to the oversight, supervision and performance of a designated dairy herd and farm seven days/week including holidays. This includes all aspects of high-quality animal care, communicating facility repair and maintenance as needed at the site.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Work Shift 8 pm – 6:30 am. Coming early or staying late as needed to complete responsibilities.

· Work Shift: Monday -Saturday, off Sundays

· Plan, direct, delegate and perform daily chores in a timely and organized fashion for the farm to include preparing the parlor, feeding animals as directed, milking, pen management, bedding stalls, and cleaning

· Maintain high quality healthy dairy herds. Identify and respond to health, environmental and nutritional requirements of cows, heifers, and calves when appropriate. Follow Dairy Farm Manager directives and veterinarian program.

· Train, develop, schedule and supervise the Dairy team to carry out the day-to-day activates/tasks of the dairy farm.

· Complete timely evaluations of employees/direct reports

· Manage the feed and inventory of the facility

· Ensure all dairy sanitation procedures are followed, to include the proper use of PPE, and checking team and machinery to verify all in working order

· Input data entry on DC305 (herd management system); utilize DC305 reports.

· Monitor feed bunks and make the necessary adjustments for proper feed deliveries and intakes.

· Enter feed delivery tags on EZ Feed to keep the system updated

· Work closely and interact with veterinarians, nutritionists, vendors, office staff, safety representatives, management and other authorized visitors to the dairy as required.

· Perform necessary procedures to guarantee that milk shipped meets the current State Public Milk Ordinance.

  • Comply with standard best practices from local and state ordinances including but not limited to milk inspector, creamery for milk quality, and USDA cull cow requirements.

· Able to work alone and in a team environment with a strong sense of accountability and insight to communicate with proper management.

· Clean the facility after any movement in or out of the milking barn in all weather conditions, and facilitate repair and communicate maintenance needed at the site to the Dairy Farm Manager.

· Record and report data and maintain current accurate information of farm performance timely and in an organized fashion.

· Travel to and assist at others farm (as needed/applicable), and attend company meetings at other locations as assigned.

· Perform various administrative tasks as needed, keeping office clean and organized (file papers, organize supplies, etc.).

· Manages supply inventory; keep inventory low to help control costs/budget

· Supervises and coordinates activities of dairy employees by working alongside Dairy Manager or General Manager to create work schedules and have work schedules posted monthly and updated as required.

· Ability to learn all positions in order to provide training paths for new hires.

· Ability to relieve employees as needed.

· Operate and maintain employee time clock.

· Schedule weekly and monthly dairy team meetings.

· Report any updates or pertinent issues that need addressing to the Dairy Manager or General Manager, and/or Human Resources.

  • Work with HR for all new hire employees and employee separations; follow company HR recruiting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to create and maintain harmonious relationship with employees and staff.

· Monitors and implements the company policies and procedures of dairy operations.

· Provides guidance, coaching and mentoring to employees.

· Manages time keeping requirements and time off via technology platforms, computer devices, and online time and attendance system.

· Responsible for adhering to company policies and procedures, including progressive discipline, harassment prevention, and reporting all relevant employee performances.

· Monitors and controls safety procedures and practices, reports needed corrective action to safety violations. Reports and removes safety hazards. Documents near miss and injury reporting and investigation.

· Help coach and train employees and participate in on-the-job mentor training.

  • Be able to adhere and manage own work schedule of 10-hour days, 6 days a week. Scheduled days off are rotated monthly.
  • Be available on call 24/7 for animal care, and team member care in the event of emergencies, and time & attendance matters.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

· High School diploma, or GED, or 5 years of dairy lead/supervisory work experience

· Must have a valid CA driver’s license

· Experience using DC305 and technology feed system, and time & attendance system

· Experience and knowledgeable of equipment safety standards, Cal/OSHA, California employee safety laws and practices, preferably pertaining to agriculture and/or dairy industry

· Experience and knowledgeable in California agricultural meal/lunch/break, and overtime policies, etc.

· Experience with Computer knowledge; experience using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Experience using office machinery (printer, copier, scanner, mobile smart phone/tablet/device system, etc.)

· Communication skills – comfortable communicating over phone, text, and email.

· High motivated self-starter

 

Preferred Qualifications/Education:

· Organized and detail oriented

· Team oriented

· Bilingual – Spanish/English

· Experience using DC305 and technology feed system, and time & attendance system, preferably EZ Feed, & Kronos system

· Special training/experience to include but not limited to, dairy feed management, milking parlor management, safe animal handling.

· High School education, or equivalent (GED), and 5-10 years of dairy farming industry experience, and/or agricultural farming related experience; with 3 years of supervisory or increasing responsibility experience.

· Associates or Bachelors’ degree in Dairy or Agriculture
