Job Title: Critical Facilities Engineer-Datacenter

Location: – On-site (511 SW 10th Ave., Suite 300 Portland, OR)

Employment Type: Full-Time Non-Exempt

Compensation: $36-$39 per hour

As a Critical Facilities Engineer, you will be an integral part of the operations team, responsible for maintaining the performance, safety, and reliability of all mission-critical infrastructure within our data center.

Job Summary

The Critical Facilities Engineer is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring of all critical facility systems. This includes electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems. The role requires a strong hands-on approach with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to infrastructure issues, perform routine maintenance, and support installations and capacity planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all mission-critical systems including UPS, generators, CRAC units, PDUs, ATS/STS, and switchgear.
  • Perform regular inspections, monitoring, and reporting on facility systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with company standards.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance, testing, and repairs of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of system failures or alarms.
  • Support data center build-outs, infrastructure upgrades, and new customer installations.
  • Maintain documentation, such as MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and incident reports.
  • Monitor building management systems (BMS/DCIM) and respond to alerts in real time.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for service and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and be available for emergency response during off-hours.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years of experience in critical facilities operations, data centers, or similar mission-critical environments
  • Familiarity with key systems: UPS, HVAC/CRAC, generators, fire suppression, electrical distribution, etc.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical principles
  • Experience with CMMS, BMS, and/or DCIM tools
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and procedures
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in physically demanding environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade certification or technical degree in mechanical, electrical, or facilities engineering
  • EPA Universal Certification, Electrical License, or similar credential
  • Experience with Tier I-III data center environments
  • Knowledge of applicable standards: NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, etc.

Working Conditions

  • On-site role with rotating shift coverage and occasional overtime
  • May include working evenings, weekends, and holidays during maintenance windows or emergencies
  • Work in indoor, high-security, and temperature-controlled environments
