Miguel Leads the America’s Centre of the Bank for International Settlements’ Innovation Hub. His current objective is to create digital solutions in the form of global financial public goods, that can be used in financial market infrastructures in multiple jurisdictions. Formerly, he held the position of head of Payment Systems and Financial Market Infrastructures at the central Bank of Mexico where he spearheaded the advancement, operation, evaluation, and oversight of national infrastructure. He played a pivotal role in the modernization of payment systems within Mexico, directing the establishment of a dollar-denominated fast payment system and increasing the retail functionality of the country’s largest payment system. He contributed to shaping the operational and regulatory strategy of the Central Bank in relation to financial market infrastructures, encompassing CBDC implementation and the integration of new assets and market participants into the ecosystem. With a background in economics and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, Miguel previously headed strategic planning and macro-financial analysis at the Bank of Mexico.
