Aravinda Garimella is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration and a Deloitte Data Analytics Scholar at the Gies College of Business. She has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the Birla Institute of Technology in India and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Washington in Seattle. Before pursuing a doctoral degree in information systems, she worked as technology and management consultant with clients in the telecom, healthcare and public sectors in Asia and Europe, where she led several digital transformation projects. Garimella’s research is at the intersection of technology and access. Her work helps practitioners design better and more equitable digital platforms and systems for communities and organizations. Her research stream in Responsible Artificial Intelligence examines AI-enabled task augmentation and how algorithmic inputs influence human decision making in decentralized financial markets, social media, and consumer relationships. She also serves on the Board of Advisors of the AI 2030 Institute, where she guides Responsible AI framework development. Through research, teaching and public engagement, Garimella is working to advance the role of ethics in the design, deployment, and management of artificial intelligence in society.
